Our offices are open Mondays through Fridays during regular university hours. We are closed when the university is closed, which typically includes all federal holidays and on Fridays during parts of May, June and July.
As a result of the FAFSA Simplification Act, we remind you, the student, of your right to request a special condition based on special or unusual circumstances. Typically, these types of requests are made because the student鈥檚 FAFSA or Cost of Attendance (COA) does not adequately reflect either the student鈥檚 or their parent鈥檚 ability to fund the student鈥檚 education.
- Special circumstances refer to financial situations that may have occurred after the tax year reported on the FAFSA. An example of this may be a loss of employment or the recent passing of a parent.
- Unusual circumstances refer to conditions that impact a student鈥檚 dependency status based on a unique situation. An example of this may be parent abandonment or the recent passing of a student鈥檚 only parent.
- The student would need to reach out and speak to their Financial Aid counselor.
- What if the student does not know who is their Financial Aid Counselor? Click Contact Financial Aid | 女神羞羞研究所 (okcu.edu)and then select the dropdown for Financial Aid Counseling, Outreach and Customer Service.
- The Financial Aid counselor determines if the request is based on a special or unusual circumstance, then provides the student with the proper request form to complete.
- The student completes the form and submits it along with all necessary supporting documentation.
- Types of supporting documentation to request a special condition must be specific to the reason of the request. Some examples are:
- A copy of a court order or official Federal or State documentation
- A written statement that confirms the circumstances by:
- Welfare agency
- Case worker
- Attorney
- Court-appointed special advocate
- Proof of residence
- Utility bills
- Health insurance policy
- Submission of the request form and supporting documents may be:
- Done in person at the Financial Aid Office
- By U.S. mail to the Financial Aid Office
- By using the Document Upload System within the student鈥檚 BlueLink (most efficient)
- Forms and documents submitted by email will not be accepted
- Types of supporting documentation to request a special condition must be specific to the reason of the request. Some examples are:
- After the submission of the request form and supporting documentation, the Financial Aid counselor will begin the review of the request and determine if 1) there is enough information for decision to be made or 2) if additional information is still needed.
- Once the review process is started it could take up to 30 days for a student to receive a decision on the request, but the goal of the Financial Aid counselor is to issue a final decision as soon as possible.
- Decisions made by the Financial Aid Office are final and may not be appealed.
