Filing a complaint

Filing a complaint with Å®ÉñÐßÐßÑо¿Ëù

Complaints made by individuals who are not otherwise subject to University policy, including clinical education sites, employers of program graduates, and the public, must be submitted in writing to the Program Director. Complaints should be filed within 30 days of the offending incident(s). The written document should include the circumstances of the complaint, specific concerns, and a possible remedy. The program will use the following procedures to address complaints received.

The program director (or designee) will:

  1. confirm receipt of complaint in a timely manner and respond to the complainant following review;
  2. consult with other University offices (e.g., Dean of the College of Health Professions, University Legal Counsel, etc.) in addressing the complaint, when necessary;
  3. meet individually or jointly with all parties involved to seek resolution, as appropriate;
  4. notify the individual in writing of the decision, including potentially developing a written corrective action plan;
  5. keep the written complaint and any corrective action(s) on file in a locked cabinet in the program’s office or on a secure server in accordance with university document retention standards, after which any documents will be securely destroyed to maintain confidentiality.

Å®ÉñÐßÐßÑо¿Ëù prohibits retaliation against any person or entity that files a complaint as described herein.

[1] In the event the program director is not available or if it is inappropriate for the program director to handle the complaint (e.g., the complaint involves the program director), the complaint will be forwarded to the Dean of the College of Health Professions or the Director of Clinical Education.

Filing a complaint with CAPTE

Individuals wishing to file a formal complaint may submit it to the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). You can provide the accrediting agency with written testimony regarding the program or file a formal complaint following the procedures detailed on the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education’s website or by directly contacting:
